Hotel Development

EAS has provided transportation advice for a range of Hotels in the south of England serving airports and town centre areas.

Key Issues

The sites have varied from new build at Luton Airport to extensions for Gatwick and Wokingham locations.

The new build site had an existing B1 and B2 designation and had been used by a flight simulation training school. Thus the thrust of the transport work was to determine the change in trip patterns for the change in land use.
The two sites being extended had an additional 30 and 80 bedrooms. Site specific traffic data was used to assess the impact as well as comparison data from the TRICS database.

These were generally minor transport statements but due to the sitelocations always being close to transport hubs of international status it was essential that green travel modes were considered as well as the impact on the network at these key points.

In particular, the Gatwick site was very close to a large signalised roundabout incorporating a guided bus system and associated bus priority through the centre of the signalised roundabout. The impact upon the arm of the signalised roundabout giving access to the hotel needed to be considered.

EAS Solutions

EAS undertook studies including:

  • TRICS and site specific trip rate  comparisons for differing land uses;
  • Access and car parking review;
  • Sustainability Assessments;
  • Transport Statements.
